Teachers keep fighting for education while their responsibilities grow bigger

Strikes, demonstrations, wars, refugees, lack of funding. It has never been easy to be a teacher or work in the field of education, but the consequences of wars and systemic problems make it even harder lately.

Education has been a hot topic in the last few years all around the world. Teachers have been striking and demonstrating in many countries because of their working conditions and payments. Meanwhile, their responsibilities grow bigger day by day because of the changing world and even the ongoing war in the Middle East and Ukraine.

In this podcast supported by the European Union and Goethe Institute, four journalists from Hungary, Lithuania and the Czech Republic came together to share their thoughts about the importance of teachers and education, and the role of media in it.

We talk about the systemic problems of education in our countries, what teachers demand and why they were “being loud” lately. How wars affect their lives and what challenges they have to face when teaching children from other countries.
